Synopsis on the life of a Freelancer!

If you ever want to be talked about similar to a prostitute, I’d suggest that person to be work as a freelancer for an event management company.

You’ll be referred to as a price tag and called upon based on availability and need!

As much as there is a downside… which, mind you, is way stronger than the up side can ever be… there happens to be a few good ups to being a freelancer as well! Let me get into the details of it in a while.

I’m writing this whilst working at an event in the Go Dolphin Ballroom of Emirates Towers. The entrance roof is made of glass… can you even begin to imagine what an idiot must the architect have been to make a glass roof in Dubai? And an even bigger idiot is the man who approved the glass finishing!

As much as its pretty, did they just conveniently forget that Dubai is, in reality, a desert?

Oh well, I’ll just mark that one as one of the downs of working as a freelancer!

Now to really sell off the up side of working as a freelancer… hmmm… lets see…

1 You get a paid a little more than normal 9-6 jobs.

2 You don’t really have a direct boss and don’t have to worry too much about deliverables.

3 You don’t have to pretend to like your colleagues, as they change with every event.

4 If you don’t like your boss, well, you are never forced to see him regularly and have to only bear him for a mere few hours (as long as the event lasts, at times just a couple of days… better than a whole year though!)

5 You need not maintain client relationships; they anyways don’t really know you.

6 Its upto you whether or not you want to work on a particular day / weekend.

Now the downs… unfortunately, this list is fucking long… well, at least it’ll increase my character count this way. Here goes nothing…

Well, this is the first thing that bothers me… no medical insurance

1 No annual ticket

2 No bonuses

3 No increment

4 No financial guarantee

5 No contract, therefore, no legal claim

6 No paid leave

7 No housing or transport allowance

8 The money is always late, screws up the bank account history as no regular cash flow

9 Since no regular cash flow, banks sort of don’t trust you, therefore not eligible for loans or cards easily

10 Hours are horribly longer than normal, and no such thing as over-time… its just a day rate.

11 You never really know your colleagues; it kinda sucks if you are the socializing types!

I’m really unable to finish writing now… apart from blank, I’ve also got too much work piled up now…

Anyone sharing my sentiments?

Everywhere I go...

The below song is a dedication to my brother Amrish. We wrote this song in complete haste only because he was in one of his music composing moods! Its based on a personal experience when traveled to B’ham, N. Ireland, Cyprus, Delhi and Mumbai. Its just a song that was written randomly, but from the heart. Hope you’ll like it as much as much we enjoyed making it  J   Everywhere I’ve been I’ve heard the same sound, The sound of people and the sound of cars The cries of children, mingled with laughter The bursts of horn, the obscenity Yet everywhere I go I’m different to them, Is this what they call hell today? Everywhere I’ve been I’ve heard the same sound, The sound of people and the sound of dogs The neighbor’s dog barking, all night disturbing The construction guy going on and on Yet everywhere I go I’m different to them Is this what they call hell today? The post-divorce syndrome for Indians

I have read many articles on what to expect after divorce especially when it comes to friends, but still none of them could have prepared me for the Indian family reaction. Also because most of those articles were written by non-Indians, and we know we are a different breed/species in itself.  To provide a simple background, mine was not an abusive marriage, and my ex-husband is actually a gem of a person. So it was a rather difficult decision to make as we were simply not compatible. Now how do you explain this to an Indian society? Compatibility? What is that? What am I even talking about right? He’s a nice guy, doesn't hit me, nor abuses me. He doesn't even cheat on me and my in-laws are lovely people. What on earth could drive me away? Well, I’m not answering that. All I’ll say is, we are not compatible and rest is between me and him. But this write-up is not about the why, it’s more about what followed. Surprise #1 - PARENTS My parents were extremely suppor

Public opinion!

While talking to my bro-in-law yesterday, we saw an advert of desperate housewives. Now, I’m not exactly a fan of TV watching, I prefer reading over TV. I expressed my wish to someday watch an episode of desperate housewives. Here’s how he describes it… There are 4 women… all desperate enough to sleep with the gardener, the cleaner, the neighbors husband and of course, the common neighbor himself! Should anything go wrong medically, they visit the doctor, only to land up on his bed. And coincidently, he would be the only doctor, and everyone would land up sleeping with him.  Having already been married to cheating husbands, the 4 women fight over their husbands, others husbands, the gardener, the cleaner and of course the common neighbor. As the seasons progress, they have kids, who go to schools with real good looking teacher, who again everyone has had a chance with. On the way home, should they get a parking or speeding ticket, then that lady will also have her w
